About Me

Nancie R. Spector, Ph.D. is a licensed child clinical psychologist with over thirty years of experience. She has expertise in learning disabilities, autism spectrum disorders, anxiety and mood disorders, dealing with issues of loss such as divorce and death, and is intensively trained in Dialectical Behavior Therapy. She also conducts parent guidance work: helping parents with their child's sleep, toileting, and feeding issues.

Dr. Spector is located in New Canaan, CT and is licensed in both Connecticut and New York. For those who are unable to visit the office, she is able to provide phone or video sessions. 

 

Dr. Spector uses a labrador retriever that is a certified facility dog trained by Canine Companions for Independence to help create a welcoming environment for her patients. He provides great comfort to both children and adults during testing and therapy sessions, and many children tell him their worries.

Dr. Nancie Spector works with children, adolescents, and their parents.

Dr. Spector conducts full psychological evaluations which examine learning issues and emotional functioning. Her goal is to teach parents how to help their children. She teaches DBT (dialectical behavioral therapy) skills to help children, adolescents, and their parents learn how to manage emotions more effectively. She also often works with parents without seeing their child to help with sleep, eating, toileting problems, and can assist when families are experiencing losses such as divorce and death.
